Everything you need to know about GoodCoop, our Pro plan, and getting started with backyard chickens.

What is GoodCoop?
GoodCoop is an AI-powered assistant for backyard chicken keepers. It includes the Tracker for logging eggs, birds, and health events; the Budget Tool; the AI Coop Assistant chat that knows your flock specifically; and smart notifications — everything modern homesteaders need in one place.
How much does GoodCoop Pro cost?
GoodCoop Pro is $5.99/month and includes a 14-day free trial. You can cancel anytime, and you won't be charged until the trial ends.
What's included in the free plan vs. Pro?
The free plan lets you explore the site and get started. Pro unlocks unlimited AI Coop Assistant chat tuned to your flock, per-bird egg tracking, health pattern detection, and smart notifications (weather, maintenance, To Dos).
Can I cancel my subscription?
Yes — you can cancel anytime from your Account page. You'll keep Pro access through the end of your current billing period, and you'll never be charged again after that.
Is my data private?
Yes. Your flock data, chats, and saved items are tied to your account and protected. We never sell your data, and you can sign out or delete your account at any time.
Do I need to know anything about chickens to use GoodCoop?
Not at all. GoodCoop is built for everyone — from first-time keepers researching their first flock to seasoned homesteaders. Just ask the AI Coop Assistant anything in plain English and you'll get instant, expert-level answers.
Are backyard chickens legal where I live?
Most cities and towns now allow small backyard flocks, but rules vary widely. Always check your local ordinances and HOA rules before getting chickens. The AI Coop Assistant can help you think through what to look for.
How many chickens should I start with?
Chickens are flock animals, so a minimum of 3 hens is generally recommended. Most backyard keepers start with 3–6 hens, which is plenty for a steady supply of fresh eggs for a small family.
Do roosters come with the territory?
No — hens lay eggs without a rooster. Many cities ban roosters because of noise, so most backyard flocks are hens only.
How much daily care do chickens need?
Plan on about 10–15 minutes a day for feeding, fresh water, egg collection, and a quick check on the flock. Add a deeper coop clean every 1–2 weeks depending on your bedding method.
What does it actually cost to keep chickens?
Startup (coop, run, feeders, first chicks/pullets) ranges widely depending on your style and size. Ongoing costs are mostly feed and bedding. Use the GoodCoop Budget Tool to plan your real numbers before you build.
