About the Founder

The story behind GoodCoop.

A note from our founder — on chickens, family, Martha Stewart, and building the companion she always wished she had.

Why I built GoodCoop

I'm Alisha, founder of GoodCoop. I started it to be the guide I needed when I was a brand-new chicken keeper. A little over a year ago, I built my own backyard coop — and quietly, it changed my life. It pulled my family back toward a simpler, slower way of living, and it gave my children a front-row seat to where their food actually comes from. There's something grounding about caring for animals together; the work is real, the rewards are tangible, and the whole household feels it.

But that first year was also a constant stream of late-night Google searches. Am I doing this right? Can chickens eat this? What does it mean when her comb looks like that? Answers were scattered across forums, blog posts, and contradicting threads — and rarely available at 9 PM with a worried hen in my lap.

GoodCoop is the answer to all of those midnight searches. The AI Coop Assistant lives right at your fingertips, ready to help with any question or concern — whether you're brand new to keeping chickens or you've been at it for years. It's a place to learn, plan, and track everything your coop and flock need, all in one calm, beautiful space.

A little Martha Stewart inspiration

I grew up watching my idol, Martha Stewart, build a beautiful world out of everyday skills — cooking, gardening, hosting, keeping a home that felt like a haven. I was so taken with it that one Christmas, when I was nine years old, I asked for her cake cookbook and a crystal cake stand. (I still have both.)

That same love of "good things, beautifully done" is the soul of GoodCoop. It's a collection of every wish I had when I first started backyard chicken keeping — distilled into something practical, thoughtful, and a little bit lovely to use.

How I use GoodCoop today

GoodCoop is part of my daily routine now. I use it to keep an eye on my flock's health, plan my budget, log eggs, and stay on top of the little things that add up to a happy coop. What started as a tool for me has become something I'm proud to share with anyone dreaming of their own backyard flock.

If you're thinking about starting a coop — or you already have one and want a calmer, smarter way to care for it — I'm so glad you're here. Welcome to the coop. 🥚
